Hello. My name is Emma Helfrich, and I am a journalist and editor with experience in technology, military, and political reporting.

My father once told me, “The statement is more important than your involvement in it,” and that sentiment has since defined my career as a journalist.

With a Bachelor’s of Science in journalism and political science from Northern Arizona University, and over two years spent covering microelectronics and technology innovation in commercial and defense spaces, I aim to deliver journalistic insight on a range of topics. There are things I believe in, subjects I feel more strongly about than others, and opinions I hold that make me human, but having the opportunity to familiarize myself with even the most niche of topics is why journalism continues to excite me.

Time spent at NAU’s newspaper The Lumberjack provided me with experience in a variety of positions, ranging from staff writer, opinion/editorial editor, and finally to copy chief. These roles allowed me to align my newly developed skills with what I wanted to achieve while preparing me for the unexpected along the way.

After a couple of bartending gigs post-college (formidable jobs in their own right) I was hired as technology editor for Military Embedded Systems magazine where I began covering industries and technologies that I had previously known very little about. From this point forward, if I must ask anything of journalism, it would be to allow me the chance to never cease learning from and informing the public.
